General
We will be using the western part of the map and not crossing busy Joshua Road. This map was last updated in 2008 and nature and PA parks have made some changes since then. Start, Finish, and Registration are at the North end of Parking Area #3. There are improved facilities nearby and throughout the park. Enter the park from Joshua Road.
Course Information
Maps are 1:10,000 with 5M contours. Loose control sheets will be available at registration. Course lengths are on the short side – this is a good opportunity to move up and/or run an additional course. There are many controls set in a small area – check the numbers. The mapped green areas are very green. The line in the SE <> NW power line has gone missing. The poles are still there and easy to identify. There is no need to cross any fence. Rootstocks are unreliable and are not used for controls. Using rootstocks for navigation is at your own risk. A new pavilion near the start is not mapped, and at least one old restroom is gone.
White – some of the mapped trails are mowed paths through open fields. These will be streamered where necessary.
Yellow – some route choices and more climb than White. Pay attention to the control numbers. Double check the feature.
Orange – good variety (for the park) of features used. Some subtle route choices and long runs offered.
Brown – check the control numbers.
Green – check the numbers. There are some crossing legs to get distance for this short Green course.
Park Use
There is a Hawk Observation Deck, Disc Golf, and Picnic areas available. There are cooking grills near the Registration/Finish areas. Pets are permitted and must be leashed. We expect a good number of “non Oers” in the park. Respect the areas around the pavilions. We will not make friends running through the middle of someone’s graduation picnic.
Safety
There will be a number posted at the start for Emergency use only. Cell phones are not permitted for navigational use. Do not cross any “non Park road”, railroad track, or stream. Watch out for car traffic on the park roads.

Feel the need to chill out with a cold one and talk about your route choices? Catch the end of the Phillies game? Ma Gerks, 582 S Bethlehem Pike, will seat us in close proximity. Just mention Orienteering and Ft. Washington park at the door.
