Core Creek Scale

Topic created by MaryFrank on Mon Mar 7, 2022 at 11:03 amI heard a few people mention they thought the scale was wrong. Bob Burg was going to look at it but it appears that instead of 1:7500, it was actually 1:10,000 so if it took you longer than you expected, this may be why. What a gorgeous day it turned out to be.

Reply by bobburg on Mon Mar 7, 2022 at 1:15 pmMea culpa....and my deepest deepest apologies. The good news is that everyone seemed to enjoy the day and their courses. The bad news is that several runners were correctly certain (and others who simply had a feeling about how much longer their course was), accurately assessed that the 1:7500 scale was actually 1:10,000. So after realizing the discrepancy, all the course results and RG reflect the actual length of your courses.Aparently when I created a 1:7500 scale version (which I have done for various reasons at least 15 times before without a hitch), I inadvertently left out one simple but critical step in OCAD, which made all the difference, a difference which I never caught during my course vetting and course file production. There is no excuse for that fundamental oversight (especially impacting everyone who attended) and should never happen. And yet, the good new is that everyone seemed to enjoy the day and their courses....even if they were way more tired at Finish than usual. Thank you all. Please forgive me, and be happy you can still do those lengths of courses.

Reply by sfmones on Mon Mar 7, 2022 at 2:10 pmBob-As the map scale was off by 33%, we all get our times reduced by that amount, right? Oh wait, that doesn't help me. Nevermind. But, it does explain my sore feet. Thanks!Steve

Reply by rpboehme on Mon Mar 7, 2022 at 2:32 pmOn the bright side, us Brown competitors ran a Green course. The Green competitors ran a Red, the reds ran a blue and the blues did an ultra long!Thank goodness for very little elevation gain for those of us who had not been out in the woods for a long time!A great course and a great event. You all have my thanks.Rich

Reply by LarryG on Tue Mar 8, 2022 at 0:45 amI quickly figured out to adjust my pacing to 1:10,000, but it didn't occur to me that the total course length was also affected. ...not until later, anyway. But it turned out to be good training for the Big Woods double header. Then I tried going home by a scenic route and made a 90 degree error by missing a turn on Swamp Rd. At least I had Google to figure it out and take me home.

Reply by bobburg on Tue Mar 8, 2022 at 4:52 pmThank you all for taking lemons and turning them into very tasty lemonade. It was a great day in the woods, and the Brown course I ran (NC of course) gives me hope I could occasionally return to Green...when there's not too much climb.
Your posts have been very kind and very funny....good antidotes for an embarrassed heart. -
Reply by johncampbell on Mon Mar 14, 2022 at 5:26 pmI thought my time per km seemed slow, but was so focused on navigating that the only question at the time was I expected attack features to come up quicker in places which the scale differnce would explain.I really enjoyed teh Brown course, made good use of the terrain .
