Reply by chand on Mon Jun 28, 2021 at 7:55 pmThat was epic!Kudos on the combined map - I printed it big and used it almost the entire time, and it lines up very well when I plotted the GPS track on top of it.

Reply by JanetT on Mon Jun 28, 2021 at 11:14 pmThank you for a great adventure and a neat custom designed sticker! A lot of work, but so satisfying to compete in. It was fun to be there when the last team arrived out of the woods safely.

Reply by skolins on Tue Jun 29, 2021 at 8:36 pmAs people have mentioned above, a lot of people made contributions to make this event happen.Kathy Urban put together the application and got permission for the event in spring 2020, and Mary Frank worked tirelessly to get the event reapproved this spring. It has been a tough time for getting permits so this work is very much appreciated.Ron Bortz worked his usual magic in getting all of the gear needed for the event.Fred Kruezi did a lot of work getting the maps formatted correctly to be printed - with four overlapping maps he helped solve a lot of unique problems! With the help of an awesome pickup team we were able to get all the controls out of the woods by around 3PM on Monday. Petr Hartman did a huge loop through the mountain laurel of the Shades of Death map, while Bob Fink, Kathy Urban, Dave Urban, and Rob Wilkison all came back after running the event Sunday to go back into the woods Monday for pickup. Rob all took all the gear to its next adventure at Colonel Denning - a huge time saver for me.And Lena Kushleyeva helped in pretty much every way imaginable, doing advertising (we got a number of people from other clubs or adventure racing groups), control vetting, results, routegadget, control hanging Friday & Saturday, plus control pickup Monday. And she did the 10-hour event Sunday - not sure how she is still standing! Finally, a big thank you to everybody who came to the event! Seeing a bunch of people out enjoying themselves in the woods (or sometimes cursing the course setter in the woods ) is what makes the work worthwile.

Reply by kathyu on Wed Jun 30, 2021 at 12:05 pmPlease add my thanks, especially to Sam and Lena who did vast amounts of work so we could crash around in the woods. Dave and I had a lot of fun, though. Dave gets extra credit for having the foresight to fill up all his spare water bottles and freezing them so the pickup crew got tanked up at the end of the day Monday. It was a truly memorable two days for us.
