UPDATE S-MASOC32 5/1/2021 French Creek State Park

Topic created by Orienteer7 on Sun Jan 24, 2021 at 5:48 pmDVOA members and Scout groups:We have received permission from FCSP to host the S-MASOC32 event on Saturday May 1, 2021 under the stipulation that participants, non participating leaders and event support personnel do not exceed 250. As most everyone is aware we normally have over 500 participants alone at this event. I believe this would put a limit of about 190 scouts. We are currently looking at options for this event including holding multiple days ..... or hosting a separate morning and afternoon cross-countty event and scratch the score event. Participants in the morning would need to leave the park by 1pm and their would not be an award ceremony. We have also recenbtly communicated with the scout organizations that we are collectiuing their troop's email contact information so we can distribute registration and event information more efficiently and timely for this event and for going forward. Mailing information does not work anymore as we are unable to communicate condition changes. For DVOA members I am looking for volunteers for this event and whether you could help on both the day of the event and other Saturdays in May should we go with multiple days. You can send me an email at orienteer7 at aol dot com.Mark Frank

Reply by Steve on Sun Jan 24, 2021 at 6:23 pmJust brain storming here, but would the park allow multiple events on different maps (maybe girls on north, older boys on west and cub scouts on central, use the camps for the bases), all on the same day? Do we have the personelle to handle that? Also, we should request (ban) all non competeing adults beyond the BSA/GSA minimum.

Reply by camperpat on Sun Jan 24, 2021 at 6:46 pmOur club is currently running 7 hikes per week with a limit of 25 on each. on any given day. we run 2 hikes one in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. Sometimes we run another hikes which leaves 1 hour later as the crowd of 25 clears quickly compared to 250. A morning and afternoon event I think would work well.

Reply by Guy-O on Mon Jan 25, 2021 at 2:20 amIs it possible that, as you get closer to May, the permitted number will increase?

Reply by Orienteer7 on Mon Jan 25, 2021 at 7:48 amAppreciate the ideas.I have now been told we cn have only 250 per day so an afternoon event is not a solution. Having multiple sites could work but would be a strain on the leaders and the club volunteers as these additional sites could not be FCSP. We can restrict leader non-participants to a point but they need certain amount of drivers and leadership. The multiple day event is probably the best solution as we could have some scouts participate on the Sunday event already approved and possibly the next Saturday with support from the leaders to hold the event.Mark

Reply by Orienteer7 on Mon Jan 25, 2021 at 2:44 pmPat:Good point....just not sure how many troops would attend a Sunday event and we need room for the club participants on Sunday. That is why I am trying to get email access to all troops so I can pull their thoughts. I don't plan to open registration until Feb 20th to gain insight from troops that respond with email contacts from the psotcard mailing that went out last week.

Reply by furlong47 on Mon Jan 25, 2021 at 11:33 pmI can help on that Saturday, and probably others if needed as things stand right now.
If you'd rather have me do something other than photography due to the limits (or combine another job with photography) that's cool.
