I saw on Facebook about the Big Woods meet being postponed to 2022 and the embargo is still in effect. What does that mean? I, and others, may want to go there for a trail race/run or mountain bike ride in next two years. Is that breaking the embargo? Hope everyone is doing well at home and getting some chances to get into nature!

My opinion, not an official ruling:  I see no problem with running or biking on the trails in the embargo area, as long as you are not using a map (of any type, but especially an orienteering map).  An organized race where the route is marked is probably the least questionable activity.  Also, activities more than six months before the event dates would be better than anything closer to the event.   The criteria may be different for Coventry Woods than for French Creek North since CW has not been used for orienteering before and far fewer potential competitors are familiar with the area.  "Exploring" CW on foot or a bike would stretch the intent of an embargo I think, even if you just stayed on trails.

There is always the possibility of running the Big Woods events as "non-competitive".  You'd still get to run the courses and compare your performance to others but would not get OUSA (or DVOA?) ranking points for the event.

Others may have different views, which I welcome to be posted here.

Thanks Glen.  I would think all marked events should be allowed, no orienteering practice allowed now to event, general trail use allowed except for within 4 months of event.  Not a big deal, but good to be clear about it since it's so far out.  Your point about distinction between FC and CW is good since most of us know FCN very well.  NC is a good option ( though I'll finally move up to M35 :) ).

I've heard that the French Creek North embargo has been lifted for now? Can we get the official version posted? Thank you!

I am not aware of any change in the embargo status of French Creek North.  The SW part of the FCN map around Scott's Run Lake is not covered by the embargo and possible use of that area has been mentioned (and the map has been recently updated there).

Could someone from the board chime in?
