Event Director: Lena Kushleyeva
Course Setter: Sandy Fillebrown and see choices to Volunteer to help at this event 🙏
Notes: This is a mass start event which is a combination of regular orienteering plus a "window" where you have to figure what order you want to take the controls in. There is a short Stumble (around 8 K) and a long Stumble (around 15 K). All finishers get a special Stumble towel as a souvenir. There are also normal recreational courses (generally white, yellow, orange) for people not ready for the Stumble courses.

Event Director Notes
The Susquehanna Stumble is a Billygoat-inspired mass start event with a couple of twists. While much of the course is normal point-to-point cross-country orienteering, there are also several windows where you can take the controls in any order.
Participants are welcome to compete individually or as a team, but everyone must register for the Stumble individually.
Standard White, Yellow and Orange (WYO) courses will also be offered, and group registrations will be accepted for these.

Note:
There will be no water on the course, or at the start/finish, so please carry your own water with you. The Long Stumble will loop back though the start/finish area about half way through, so feel free to stash extra water near the start!Course Setter Notes
We've had a lot of rain recently, so water features are generally full and obvious. That said, there are also now extra water features such as depressions that may look like small marshes or random washes that look like dried stream beds. Hickory Run Creek itself has been running high and fast in recent weeks. The courses have been designed so that, while not required, crossing at one of the road bridges is always a reasonable route choice. If you're not familiar with the park, there will be a map at check-in highlighting these crossing points (they are not highlighted on the competition maps).
At Hickory Run, dark green usually indicates stands of rhododendron. Most of these stand out in the terrain and some of them are quite easy to pass through. Medium green, on the other hand, usually idiciates mountain laurel. It is possilbe to push quickly through mountain laurel for very short distances (like a few feet), but it is genearlly best to go around and avoid much more than that. Although the laurel has spread out in a few places, it is generally mapped quite accurately and passages of white woods that are shown on the map are really there. LIght green varies considerably across the map, but whil it might reduce visibility it is usually fairly easy to run through. Please respect the areas marked as out-of-bounds. Our continued access to the park depends on it.All courses cross park roads and/or parking lots. While there will be signs out warning motorists and there is a 25mph speed limit in the park, please use caution. And again, a reminder that there will no water at the start/finish or out on the course so please bring (and carry on the course if you want) your own. The Long Stumble loops back through the start/finish for a map exchange, so you can leave extra water or other things there to pick up for the second loop of the course.
