Topic created by Steve on Wed Jun 7, 2023 at 2:33 pmDoes it make sense to do six hour score o with an AQI off of the charts? Somehow this seems different to me than running in rain, ice or snow. We usually like to get some fressh air when we go orienteering. If you all agree that it is worth not postponing, I will hang flags with Sandy on Friday.

Reply by Steve on Wed Jun 7, 2023 at 4:15 pmWith 400 wild fires burning, it will take a monsoon to put them out. As for wind direction, I am clueless.

Reply by drads on Wed Jun 7, 2023 at 4:39 pmAs of 16:30 on Wednesday the AQI is hazardous (AQI=389), but forecast for Friday is currently Moderate (AQI=100). Although fires won't be out for a while, wind patterns could change. I recommend we reasses late Thursday. If it is unhealthy/hazardous, I would skip running in the event.Hope this helps. Dave

Reply by rgbortz on Wed Jun 7, 2023 at 8:03 pmShall we be sensitive to AQI for all events ? Then many would not participate frequntly. Speaking for myself I tend to "know thyself" and can determine as I am living life if I should stop doing an activity if the current environmental conditions say STOP. I say let the show go on and advise people to make the decision they think best for themselves.

Reply by kathyu on Thu Jun 8, 2023 at 1:08 pmI noticed that wooded areas (like our development which is notoriously overgrown with mature trees) seem to have clearer air than open treeless areas.
