Lol.  love it. !  But I feel like I am at choose-0.  again.   May have to dig out old maps to really answer them.  Is that cheating?     Thanks for thinking of us Mark.

Not cheating - the memory challenge is finding to old maps. Hint: not all map segments are oriented to N at the top.

Is completion of the puzzle dependent upon having all maps as paper copies?  Or can the mighty route gadget be used as a reference?

I am certain most of the veterans have extensive libraries of paper maps to refer to, but a relative 'impovrished newcomer' such as myself would lack the necessary resources.  :-)

You can use any means (legally) possible to solve.  Route Gadget maps are very helpful but there are a few you will not find in Route Gadget as Steve Mones has made it clear to me.  Once you narrow down what you know..then you can focus on the few which are not on route gadget and I think as Steve said you can figure it out.

    Hi-

As Mark noted, all but about 6 or 7 of the 35 maps are in DVOA's Route Gadget.  I had no paper maps for the remaining venues, and I almost gave up at that point.  I then did internet searches for o-maps of the other venues and found maps for all but two of them.  I never did find o-maps for two of them.  As a last resort, I used Google Map photo views to pin down those two; distinctive features made it possible.  I found it quite challenging and much more difficult than I thought it would be at the outset.  I am in awe of Eric Weyman for solving this without looking at any maps.  My thanks to Mark for coming up with this great idea!

I have been to many of these locations, but can't identify any of them by memory so far.  But now that I see that I may not be going to a real O event for many months, I guess this will become my O challenge for 2020.

Granted, it is an advantage to have worked in some capacity on most of these maps.
Even so, I also found it significantly more difficult than expected.

Early on I noticed Kathy U's comment about some not being oriented to North, which was disconcerting.
Many of Mark F's shots were not of the most characteristic sections, at least to my perspective.
Many I recognized right away, a few more I had to think about.
Also I glimpsed at Petr's eboard post for COR-O-19, which confirmed my guess on the overlapping map.
On the last 5 or 6, I had to guess by process of elimination, and I was very unsure about them when I turned in my list.

On two difficult (obscure?) maps which Steve singled out (but since deleted?), I had the advantage of local knowledge, one being just across town from where I live, the other a similar distance from where I grew up, and as a kid, viewed regularly from the dentist's chair, and more recently attended concerts exactly at the focus of Mark's snippet.

Eagle-eyed Eric not only notices everything on maps, but he noticed that I edited my earlier post.  I originally named the two venues for which I could not locate online o-maps.  I then realized that I probably should not have named them in view of the ongoing nature of the puzzle.  Also, just because I could not find online o-maps for them does not mean that someone else might not be more successful.
