McKaig Night-O - course setter notes

Topic created by chand on Sun Nov 24, 2019 at 6:02 pmCourse setter's notes - McKaig Night-OMcKaig is great because we have permission (hard to get sometimes), a brand new Lidar based map 1:5000 with 5 meter contours, and the woods are very runnable. That being said, there's only about 100 acres to work with, and it's quite hilly. Expect lots of turns. Please stay off the marked private property. We have permission to run on a neighboring estate - it should be unoccupied but please be respectful of the property. When the ink was still metaphorically drying on the new professional map, a scout project reduced the slope of one of the trails on the east side but did this by making it squirrelly shaped. The old trail is still partially visible (but mostly blocked). I have it on the map for reference. The woods are so clear that you can probably just run wherever you want.Only one road can be used during the event - it's at the southern border of the map. Please be careful when on the road. There is a deep trench in one of the streams (it is mapped). I strongly suggest going around it.The two advanced courses will feature an optional "rescue a (rubber) chicken". Be on the lookout for the chickens behind a fenced area. They will be guarded by a large monitor lizard. Bring a chicken all the way back to the registration area and you win a free slice of pizza! (One per person please!)First starts at 5 PM. Registration is in the old Roberts building, it's on the Northwest corner of the school property. It's heated and we should have some hot chocolate for afterwards. There will be a porta-potty near the start. I'll probably have some pizza available for $1 / slice while it lasts.

Reply by chand on Tue Nov 26, 2019 at 4:28 amYes, that is the start window. It would be nice to have everyone out of the woods by 8 or 8:30 so I don't have to go looking for anyone. I'll do control pickup the next morning.
