Hickory Run Training Weekend 2019 is in the books!  As with any event, it took a village to make the event a success.  This year, we overcame some challenges to put on a great event.  Though we got off to a late start, we had increase of 6 runners on the night course, and an increase of 30 runners on the day course.  Thanks to Vadim Masalkov and Rob Wilkison for setting great courses that reinforced the skills learned on Saturday.  Thanks to our trainers, Julie Keim, Anne Fitch, Donna Terefenko  on Beginner; Tom Overbaugh, Bob Gross, Mark Frank, Ed Scott, and Petr Hartman on Intermediate; and Sam Kolins on Advanced.  Thanks to Janet Porter for coordinating the trainers and for cooking tasty Soup and Chili for lunch.  For the courses, thanks to our Starters: Mark Frank, Robert Frank, Pat Burton, & Vadim Masalkov (Night); and thanks to our pick-up crew: Rob Wilkison, Vadim Masalkov, Petr Hartman, Brad Colbeck, Lena Kushleyeva, Kathy Moss, Sam Kolins, Julie Keim, & Mark Frank.  Thank you to our registrar, Mary Frank, who kept us informed of our participants and who checked everyone in for the weekend.  Thanks also to Sandy Fillerbrown who assisted in getting our registration up and online.  An Army travels on its stomach and so do Orienteers.  Thanks to the Kitchen staff who kept us fed and stocked with coffee: Steve "Pancakes" Reeps, Dave "Ginsu" Desch, Steve "Chef Boyardee" Ohrwaschel, Mary Frank, Pat Burton, Bob Burton, Judy Scott, & Carol Middleton. Thanks also to Steve Aronson and Sharon Siegler for packing the Kitchen gear and loaning the truck to get it to Camp. Finally, thanks also for the hearty souls who endured and did the final clearing to allow us to exit camp and return home: Mary, Mark, Robert, Kathy, Lena, Sam, Brad, & Dave.  With such a large cast of characters, I run the risk of leaving someone out, for that I apologize if I did.

While the weekend went well, I welcome feedback on how we can improve our signature training event.  As always, we can use helpers at the event to reduce the workload on the club members who consistently organize, set-up, and tear down at our events.  Thanks for a great HR Weekend.  Looking forward to Hickory Run 2020.

I had a great time! The food was great, the facilities were better than expected (hot water, flush toilets, showers, and electric in the cabins), learned a lot in training, and the courses were awesome! It was great meeting new members and also getting to know others better. The only improvement I?d suggest is a spring training weekend too! Brad
