McKaig 3/16/2019 - info and bonus courses for volunteers

Topic created by chand on Fri Mar 8, 2019 at 3:49 pmI have a lot of pre-registrants for the 10 AM McKaig first session. Still plenty of room for 1 PM.The beginner "white" courses are about a mile long with 8 or 9 controls. There's a short "yellow" course with a ribboned shortcut through the woods that is appropriate for locals familiar with McKaig but not orienteering.
Any volunteers that help get the beginners started at 10 AM can run a bonus sprint or score-O - very informal with the training kit - 2.0km and 2.6 km sprints with all the McKaig hills included, or a score-O with about 14 controls. All controls are easy. Sprint 2 begs for some cross-terrain shortcuts.I have scouts that have volunteered to pick up the controls after the 1 PM session. -

Mary & Michelle will be in Baltimore for the Northeast Qaulifier Volleyball torunament and I am traveling to central PA to check out a new beginner map for an event at my High School in late May.Hope you get a great turnout and lots of help. I have three helpers lined up for 10 AM. If you'd like to help for the 1 PM session, just show up a little early (say 12:45 PM). I have scouts available to help with taking down the controls at the end.Speaking of scouting, all courses are long enough to qualify for BSA 1st class orienteering requirement. If you need some items to measure along the way (per the requirements), let me know when you start your course.McKaig is also a great place to geocache - four well maintained caches are spread throughout the park.
