Come join us at the rolling hills of Fair Hill for the Mid-Atlantic Championships.  This year's event will consist of individual Orienteering with starts between 9:30 and Noon and a Relay Mass Start at 2:00 pm (14:00).  Arena Center will be at the pavilion near Parking field#2 in the vicinity of the Covered Bridge with access from Appleton Road and Telegraph Road.

We will use the Fair Hill Strawbridge Fields Map (1:10,000)  For the event

Start for Classic Orienteering will be remote near the Mason Dixon Line.  Transportation will be provided between Registration and Start (Drivers needed for the Rental Van).  Finish and Relay Start will be in the vicinity of Registration

PRELIMINARY Points System for the Broken Compass Award

Club championship (the Broken Compass award to the winning club) scored by

                    o  number of club participants/number of members (%=# points) > total = 100 points

                    o  top 8 on Br,G,R,B courses (Top 3 per club) 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1     > total = 156

                    o  top 6 on W,Y,O courses (Top 3 per club)    8,6,4,3,2,1             > total =  72

                    o  top 4 in 3pt, 6pt, 9pt relays    3 x (20,15,10,5)                        > total = 150

                                                                                                                  sum = 478

We will use a points framework similar to the US Relay to handicap the relay

There are three categories for relay scoring :

          3 pt (or less) teams,

          6 pt (or 4 or 5) teams,

9 pt (7 pt and above) teams

    Points handicapping system for relay:

           • Ages 21-39 count as 0 points

           • Ages 17-20 or 40-49 count as 1 point

           • Ages 15, 16 or 50-59 count as 2 points

           • Under 15 years of age or 60 and older count as 3 points

A female orienteer adds 2 more points, in addition to any age points.

Sign-up forms will be provided at the event for relay teams

Please check back for updates as we get closer to the event.  Let's have a strong showing for our 50th Anniversary run at this event.

If all that seems a bit complicated, please know that, bottom line, we want members to come out to our last scheduled orienteering event of the year. As is true of much in life, showing up counts!

Ralph Tolbert has designed courses to take people into areas of the park we don't usually visit, with some interesting sights along the way.

    Looking forward to this event.

Those (QOC planners :) watching the details - please note the relay team categories changed just slightly to 0+, 4+ and 8+ points - see the main event listing for the update.
