The Memorial weekend festivities continue on Saturday evening May 25th with a full moon Night O at Sand Spring Lake. The Registration/Start/Finish area for this event is the pavilion at the south end of the Sand Spring Lake parking lot. Courses will be offered for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced ability levels.
The Beginner course controls will be on trails and the open area around the lake. There is one trail loop at the start of the Beginner course that will be marked with reflective tape. The Intermediate and Advanced courses feature off-trail controls in the woods and also make use of the open terrain near the lake. Since the vegetation will be out, controls are placed in the more open woods. Controls on all courses will be marked with reflectors. The Sand Spring Lake map has been updated to reflect recent changes around the lake and picnic areas.
Sunset on May 25th is at 8:22 pm and it won't get dark until about 30 minutes later. First start will be around 8:50 pm. Pre-registration is not required. If you would like to reserve a start time in advance, please send me an email (toverbaugh at comcast dot net). Otherwise. start times will be assigned on a first com / first served basis. Registration at the pavilion will open around 7:00 pm. Participants can go out in groups or as individuals. All participants are required to carry both a primary and back-up light source. Map fee will be $6.
Map Scale: Beginners 1:5,000 / Intermediate & Advanced 1:10,000. 5m Contour Interval.
