ED & Course Setter’s Notes
Parking will be in the gravel lot at the corner of Gallaher Road and Big Elk Chapel Road, with overflow parking on the grass just east of Gallaher Road. In planning this event and the course designs, we have had to factor in another organization's "buggy ride," scheduled for Saturday, which has Sunday as its rain date. If they're out at all, we don't expect very many buggies, but our "usual" parking/registration area inside the gate on the east side of Gallaher Road has been reserved for buggy folks. Consider CAR POOLING, if you can, as the parking lots will be busy, especially if the weather is sunny & nice on Sunday.
The woods at Fair Hill are glorious--open, bright, and mostly runnable, but they are greening up a bit as is to be expected, and the week's rains may make some areas (and trails) a bit muddy. The map, made in 2005, is mostly OK, except for a number of unmapped or 'moved' trails. Even competitors on Yellow need to be a bit careful not to mistake an unexpected trail for another that's on the map!
Most mapped root stocks have nearly disappeared, while many huge new root stocks are not mapped. For the most part, the map is good regarding vegetation.
Be considerate of horse and buggy traffic-- stop or walk slowly, OFF the trail, when horses are approaching. White through Brown courses will not cross any roads or the carriage roads used by the buggy ride. Green and Red will cross Gallaher and the buggy routes. Time spent crossing Gallaher road at start and finish will be subtracted from the elapsed time.
RED & GREEN-- PLEASE CHECK AT REGISTRATION TO CONFIRM THE START AND FINISH DETAILS FOR YOUR COURSES.
Water & cups have been placed at locations marked on the MAP, which are convenient to several courses, rather than at specific controls. Pay attention to these locations, if you are thirsty.
We still need volunteers, so please sign up if you can work registration, start, computers, or control pick-up!
See you there! --Bev & Fred
