ED/CS Notes:
This is a golden opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day with the family in the park.
The park is suddenly turning green after a long winter. That said visibility is still good in the woods so some of the subtlety in vegetation changes is a little vague. There are also a few new trails in places which are not on the map.
The green and red courses will have a stream crossing – The river was down far enough from last week major rainstorm and flooding that I had no problem crossing the river last Saturday while checking control locations.
Areas of Out of Bounds:
There are several areas of Out of Bounds. These are all marked on the map with a vertical pink/purple lines. Some areas the out of bounds is obvious when you get there, the fence around them is a deer fence, i.e. a good 7-8 feet tall – DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS FENCE.
There is an area to the south of the Shannon Mansion / Getty Cottage where there is a crop of Oil seed rape (bright yellow flower) which is noted as Out of Bounds. Please observe this Out of Bounds as you will be disqualified, but more important you put further use of the park in jeopardy.
There are also two old road bridges which cross the railway track. These are unsafe and fenced off and must not be used. Also the railway bridge over the Creek at the NE end of the map is Out of Bounds. These are noted on the map with a pink/purple X.
Courses:
White Course: The white course with the exception of a short distance from the start and a short distance to the final control and finish is all on a paved road, so if anyone wants to bring a stroller etc., the surface is perfect. In order to have the course all on paved road, the length is slightly longer than a typical white course.
Courses - General:
I have planned the courses to make best use of the area as much as possible and provide some route choice. In order to do this some of the course lengths vary a bit from normal. That said the park is very open.
