WELCOME TO THE 2016 MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL ORIENTEERING MEETRocky Ridge County ParkSunday - October 16, 2016Hosted by Susquehanna Valley OrienteeringGENERAL ITEMS-------------- Start times between 10 and 1. No preregistration required but itwould be useful if people could send me (whitmore@stsci.edu) anemail with name, course, club, and electronic punch number to helpspeed registration if possible. You can pay when you arrive.- Electronic punching. Register your memory card number atregistration if you have one or borrow one if you do not. $40 feefor lost cards.- A 3-person relay will begin at ~2 PM. Relay legs 1 and 3 will beadvanced level while leg 2 will be yellow/orange level. Legs arebetween 2 and 3 km with spectator controls on all courses.SIGN UP YOUR TEAM FOR THE RELAY BY 1:00 PM.We will use a points framework similar to the US Relay to handicapthe relay (e.g., a 25 year old male is worth 0 points while a 50year old female is worth 4 points - see below). There are threecategories for scoring - 3pt (or less) teams, 6pt (or 4 or 5) teams,and 9 pt (7 pt and above) teams- Club championship (the Broken Compass award to the winning club) scored byo number of club participants/number of members > total = 100 pointso top 8 on Br,G,R,B courses 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1 > total = 156o top 6 on W,Y,O courses 8,6,4,3,2,1 > total = 72o top 4 in 3pt, 6pt, 9pt relays 3 x (20,15,10,5) > total = 150---sum = 478NOTES- If a person runs on more than one course, only their highest counts.- Awards. 1st place on each course/gender (cookies) around 2:15 (afterstart of relay) , and the Broken Compass award (if we can find it)around 3:30.-------------------COURSE SETTERS NOTES - Mike BertramAlthough this has been a dry summer for Rocky Ridge the undergrowthis still green, too green as far as I am concerned. So you mightwant to make route choices using the more open woods. The map doesreasonably the reflect the state of the vegetation.Please be cautious while crossing roads, especially during the relaywhere there are a lot of road crossings.------------------Relay:Course 1, advanced 2.5 km / 60 mCourse 2, intermediate(y/o) 2.2 km / 50 mCourse 3, advanced 2.7 km / 80 m-------------------Points handicapping system for relay:• Ages 17-20 or 40-49 count as 1 point• Ages 15, 16 or 50-59 count as 2 points• Under 15 years of age or 60 and older count as 3 pointsA female orienteer adds 2 more points, in addition to any age points.
