ED/CS Notes:
LAST EVENT of the season for you to enjoy on looks like another beautiful Sunday!
This time we\'ll be using parking Lot #3 (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/cs/groups/public/documents/document/dcnr_004722.pdf) as our staging area:
Course setter notes.
Fort Washington map is showing some aging and while fieldchecking, I\'ve noticed changes, specifically vegitation and trails. Generally vegitation got worse where it wasn\'t great to begin with and the rule of thumb is to avoid dark green areas. However, there are couple of areas cleared by the park stuff. Most of the trails are there with few changes/additions here and there. Advanced courses, Brown through Red, will encounter new trail on the west side of Joshua Road which is not mapped. Several indistinct trail don\'t exist anymore and with the leaves on the ground some of them are difficult to see.
This time of the year the woods are pretty much open with great visibility and offer high speeds throughout most of the forested areas.
White and Yellow courses are staying within main park area and cross only park road, still, be caeful and use caution while crossing road.
Orange course offers high speed running with easy to medium navigation with few twists here and there.
Brown course is more or less middle distance like with a lot of short legs.
Green and Red courses are using higher than normal amount of checkpoints due to the road crossing, so, please be careful and avoid double punching - some of the older chips can hold only 30 timed punches (+6 checkpoint numbers only). Both courses have a lot of controls, change the flaw from short legs to some longer, from high speed on the trails/roads to slower in the woods. Again, please be careful crossing roads and make sure you punch in order.
Road crossing.
All advanced courses, Orange through Red, are crossing Joshua Road twice in two different crossing points. We\'ll have checkpoints on each side of the road and you\'ll have 1 min. to cross the road safely. The time spent will be deducted (voided) from your final time, so, please use caution while crossing the road.
Water stops.
There will be only 2 water stops, one will be at the checkpoint after the second Joshua Road crossing and another one near the place where all the courses go through.
Bathrooms.
All bathrooms but one at parking Lot #5 are closed for the season.
Registration.
Registration and Start times are between 10am and 1pm. Start shuts down at 1:30pm and courses close at 3pm. Controls pickup for early parts of courses will begin around 2:30pm and the rest will be removed at 3:00pm.
As usual, we look for VOLUNTEERS to help with this event! Each volunteer will get a Holiday Gift!
See you in the woods.
