ED/CS Notes:

For those of you that are not going to the A Event in New York we will be presenting an event with a full slate of courses. It’s been a while since we held an event here at Evansburg, so It’s possible some of you have never been here. We have a pavilion adjoining a parking area.

Access to the park must be from the south or west. Germantown Pike is signed into the park at Skippack Creek Road. Lesher Rd and Thompson Rd are closed to vehicle traffic coming into the park. Evansburg Rd to Mill Rd can also get you to the main park entrance.

All of the courses go through the lower elevations of the park, along the creek, where there is a most obvious series of ditches, gullies and depressions. These are some of the remnants of the Mennonite settlers that inhabited the area for years before the State of PA took it over to turn it into a reservoir to cool the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant. Luckily for us the reservoir never got built and the already condemned land was turned into the park.

Many features marked on the map, either topographic or vegetative, are subtle. Features such as: visible low linear rises; a series of depressions all lined up in a row; plantings of trees, all of the same species lined up in perfect rows;  conifer plantations... are marked on the maps. These features are visible in the park and can be used to navigate with, but they will take some getting used to focusing in on them because many are not large scale features like you may be used to.

There are "out of bounds" and "forbidden routes" marked on the maps. Please respect them, especially those areas on the south/west part of the map.

Water is at TWO stations. They are not at CP's. They are marked on the maps, NOT on the clue sheets

There are some areas that are dense with control points. Please make sure you are at the correct CP.

Look for the spring bloom of ephemerals that is just getting underway, especially near the wet areas/vernal ponds or the south-ish facing hills. The Virginia Blue Bells (Mertensia) is spectacular in places. There is also an immature bald eagle trolling around over the creek. If you see it, you'll know what it is.

Please be careful of the hairy stemmed vines on some of the trees as this is poison ivy that hasn’t leafed out yet.

There will be no mandatory water crossings. Bridge crossings are a reasonable route choice for those courses crossing the Skippack Creek.
