Electronic Punch:  E-punch will be used for Finish timing only.  Pin punches will be used at controls to record the responses to the Jeopardy questions on a special control card.

NOTE:  If you are concerned about touch points due to  COVID, you may bring your own permanent marker on the course and use that to mark the control card instead of the pin punch.

Overtime Point Penalties:

0 to 1 minute:                -50

1 minute to 2 minutes:    -100

2 minutes to 3 minutes:   -200

3 minutes to 4 minutes:   -400

4 minutes to 5 minutes:   -800

5 minutes to 6 minutes:   -1600

6 minutes to 7 minutes:   -3200

> 7 minutes                    -3200

Jeopardy Theme:  The map has been divided into 6 different sectors, each of which corresponds to a Jeopardy category.  The category topics and questions are orienteering-related.  The total points available in each category are the same:  436 points.  Within each category on the map are 8 controls.  At each control flag, you will find a laminated card on top of the flag showing the control number and the Jeopardy question along with 4 possible responses:  A, B, C, D.  You must pick the response you believe is correct and then use the pin punch (or your permanent marker) to mark your response in the corresponding A, B, C, or D box on the control card.  You will only receive points for a control if you answer the Jeopardy question correctly.  The difficulty of the questions generally increases with the control number (e.g. question at control 78 will be much more difficult than that at control 31).  You might want to keep this in mind when formulating your strategy for which controls to visit.  Also, two of the controls have been randomly designated as “Daily Doubles.”  These will be marked as such on the question card.  If you answer a Daily Double question correctly, you will receive double the point value for that control.  There are no electronic punch stations at the controls.  To record your Finish time, you must punch the electronic punch Finish box on the sawhorse on the east side of the pavilion.  Then proceed to Download at the pavilion.  At Download, you must download your finish time and turn in your control punch card so that your Jeopardy responses can be recorded in an Excel spreadsheet for the official scoring.  Note that overtime penalties are rather severe so you should plan on finishing within the 1 hour time limit.  Control pick-up will begin as soon as the course is cleared.

Several cautions:  There is a stable area on the southwest side of the map.  Controls have been placed to avoid stables and corrals but it is still possible you could encounter a horse and rider on a trail.  If you do, the horse and rider have the right of way.  Announce your presence well in advance and give the horse a wide berth when passing.  There is a popular disc golf course on the map and controls are placed in or near the disc golf area.  Please be respectful of other park users and do not interfere with their enjoyment of the park.  A road crossing(s) may be required depending on which controls you elect to visit.  Be mindful of traffic when crossing the road.  The Bellevue Mansion area and associated formal gardens are out-of-bounds and marked with red cross-hatch on the maps.  Participants are not permitted to enter this area.

Directions:  From north, take I-95 south to Marsh Rd. exit. Go south on Marsh Rd. to intersection with Carr Rd. Take a left on Carr Rd. Park entrance is ahead on right.

From south: participants are urged to use I-495 rather than I-95 due to major road construction in Wilmington. Take I-495 north to Exit 4 US-13/DE-3/Edgemoor Rd. Turn right onto Edgemoor Rd. and follow for 0.8 mile. At light, turn slight right onto Marsh Rd. Follow Marsh Rd. 1.3 miles to intersection with Carr Rd. Take a right on Carr Rd. - park entrance is ahead on right.

At this time of year, there is no park entrance fee in effect.  Follow signs to the main parking lot.  Porta-johns are available next to the parking lot.  To get to the pavilion from the parking lot, proceed northwest to cross the gravel track and then take the footbridge across the pond.  Pavilion #1 which will serve as the event center is on the left.  There are no porta johns at the pavilion.
