ED/CS Notes:

The 2019 summer sprint series starts with this event on the brand new map of FDR Park.  The American Swedish Historical Museum currently has an exhibit on the history of navigation and orienteering and is sponsoring this event.  Make time to come early and visit the exhibit if you can - it's fascinating!  It's also World Orienteering Day so come celebrate orienteering.

The event will start earlier than usual at 4:30pm.  Controls will be picked up starting no later than 7:30pm.

This event is suitable for beginners and instruction will be available.

Parking is in the lots in front of the museum.  Registration will be in front of the museum or just inside in case of inclement weather.  We have permission to use the restroom facilities in the museum.

This is an urban park so lots of grassy areas and sidewalks with some (very limited) wooded areas.  I do not recommend spiked shoes and they are NOT permitted inside the museum.  There will most likely be many sporting events going on - baseball, softball, soccer, tennis - and lots of spectators or others just enjoying the park.  Courses have been designed so that you shouldn't want to go through the playing fields so keep that in mind.  Please stay alert and be considerate of all the park users.

There is a road that circles the park and the courses cross this road a number of times - use caution.  It is a one-way road and cars are generally going slow, but please be careful and cross in a safe manner.

There are two courses, one slightly longer than the other.  They utilize some of the same controls for part of the course.  Check codes since there are some places where there are a lot of controls and the courses criss-cross over themselves.

Note that the Wednesday evening events are a fundraiser for the US Orienteering Team.  As such, there is special pricing.  The cost is $10 for one course, $15 for two and an optional additional $5 to rent an SI-Air card for those events where touchless punching is offered.  (Touchless punching just means you have to get your SI-Card close to the control and not actually insert the card into the control. Regular punching with a regular SI-card can also be used at these events.)
