Silas Condict park has varying terrain and complexity formed by the glaciers in the NJ Highlands.
The terrain is similar to Harriman State Park, in NY, with lots of cliffs, rocks, bare rock, etc. especially in the southern part where we have the advanced courses. The beginner courses will utilize terrain which is easier to navigate in the Northern part and the controls will be close to major park trails.
The event area where we will have the start and finish is nice and open with a lake front.
Note: The last two storms have caused many FALLEN TREES so please USE CAUTION and COMMON SENSE. Go around snags and rootstock. Please note that fallen trees and rootstocks are not mapped. The course maps have pink/purple crosshatching where trees are blocking trails. Also please note that only boulders taller than 1m have been mapped.
Less distinct trails can be hard to find with the leaves down this time of the year. For the beginner courses we will put out orange streamers to help find the less distinct trails.
This is black bear territory, anyhow the chances of seeing them are very slim. In case you see them please use caution; a whistle might be useful to bring. It is also tick territory, so take the usual precautions concerning the tiny arachnids.

HVO’s brand new Map of Silas Condict Park was produced by Bjorn Walberg, with assistance from Greg Balter, Paul Bennett, Nadya Popova, Bob Rycharski, and Eric Weyman. The scale is 1:10,000, and the contour interval is 5 meters.
The Start, for all courses, is a slightly uphill, 100 meter walk north from registration.
The Bathrooms at the shelter are closed for the season. A wheelchair-accessible portable toilet is located across the parking lot next to the dumpster.
E-punch Registration and Card Rentals will take place at the same time as course registration. Please follow posted instructions for filling out your registration card.Schedule

All courses close and control pickup will begin at 3pm
If you expect to be out on your course for more than 2 hours, please plan to arrive early and start by noon!Cost
HVO's regular event fee schedule will apply (HVO member / non-member):
Individual Adult: $5 / 10
Individual Junior (20 and under): $4 / 5
Group (regardless of ages) NEW:
$7 / 12 for 2 persons + $2 for each additional person, age 8 & over -- everybody age 8 & over will get a map!
Family (immediate) Maximum: $10 / 20
Because this is the HVO/DVOA Dual Event, HVO-member fees will also apply to DVOA members.Additional Maps: $2 each
E-card Rental: $2 each, plus deposit ($40 or car keys);
Compass Rental: $1 each, plus deposit ($10 or car keys);

Points are assigned on each course for the top 3 men and top 3 women from each club plus the top 3 groups on White and Yellow. 1 through 6 points are assigned: 6 for 1st, 5 for 2nd, and so on. If there are not 3 finishers from one of the clubs on a course, those points will not be assigned. To figure in the results, your club has to be declared on your registration card!
