ED/CS Notes:
General
This will be the second full DVOA event on a new map. Registration will be in the barnyard outside the Visitor’s Center. The Visitor’s Center will be open for restrooms, no spikes please. Crow’s Nest Trail Guides are available, so you can return to explore the Preserve’s seven miles of trails including a section of the Horseshoe Trail. Look for fox, deer and wood ducks and listen for birds singing. (Check for ticks.) Take the kids to cross the wire bridge.
If you’ve worked up an appetite or feel like socializing, a menu for AJ’s Pizza will be posted near registration. Conveniently located on route 23 on the way to Route 100, AJ’s has picnic tables outside.
Parking
There is limited parking at the visitor’s center lot with more room in the adjacent mowed field. If we have had substantial rain, this mowed area will get very muddy.
Courses – General
The woods are greening up, but most courses will keep you out of the thorns. Many trails have blazes, which might be helpful. Most courses will cross lightly used roads, so be cautious.
White – this course follows some open field borders. These are not mapped as trails; they may be mown and are easy to follow.
Yellow – this is a harder Yellow course. Some controls are well off trails, but are on easily reached following linear features (streams, fence lines, field borders,…).
Orange – this course uses a variety of features with an opportunity to run on the Horseshoe Trail. A few of the Orange controls are in the Southern part of the map with a large number of boulders.
Brown, Green, Red – these courses cross some open fields (fast) and dip down into the Southern part to tangle with the boulders and the emerging green (slow).
Volunteers
We need volunteers! In addition to the Event Director and Course Setter hours worked, it takes about 35 more volunteer hours to put on an event. All volunteers will have an opportunity to run.
