Springton Manor; Event Notes

We will have courses for all abilities, White through Red. The park is a great place to learn how to orienteer with good visibility, large, obvious features and a strong trail network. The White and Yellow course are perfect for beginners, and novices as well as families.

*Registration is on-line only.

*Please try to register before Saturday for this event.

*If you registered and your name isn’t on the registered participants list, please contact me. Better to fix it before Sunday.

*We’ll stage next to the Carriage House/park office. The usual parking lot.

*We are hopeful that the restroom right in the Carriage House should be open for us. The restrooms are open down the hill in the Great Barn.

*Please take a few minutes to look around the park. The gardens and fields near the mansion look wonderful right now.

*Cluesheets and course notes will be available a short time before the event. Print out your cluesheets at home please! They will be available at:

Course Notes

*The controls should be programmed for SI Air for this event. If you are starting early, please check with the start person and make sure the Air feature on the controls is turned on.

*There are fields that are still being actively cultivated. Stay out of them. There are plenty of route choices to avoid them. Goats and sheep are unpredictable, Stay out of their pastures.

*Please honor the out of bounds areas marked on your maps. You can do better than Warwick.

*Springton is a small park, so there is a high density of controls out there. Make sure you are at the correct control before punching.

*There are some flags to help mark trails on the White and Yellow courses. Those folks are more than welcome to follow them, otherwise, it’s a LONG way around.

*The map was updated recently and generally holds up well. Thank you Wyatt. Vegetation is still summery, somewhat greener in some areas. Areas marked as rough open land are quite variable. Some runnable, some not. The green hashed areas are nose high right now and very slow.

*I’ve been trying to keep up with the park’s seasonal mowings. There may be some areas that have been mowed differently as depicted on the map. Seasonal mowing patterns do not effect anything in the woods.

Remember, we are still to follow mandated rules concerning group activities.

*Please do not come if you are, or have been ill with any of the CV19 symptoms or have been around others that have symptoms.

*Bring a mask and wear it when you are around people at the start, registration, or otherwise around people. You may remove it once you are away from the start, by yourself, or with your group.

Move away from the registration area when you are through there. This has been a problem.

*Please bring your own water to take out on the course. There will not be any at controls. or at registration.

*Maintain 2 meters distance between you and others especially near registration or the start.
